2005 Mustang GT Performance Update

On the weekend of March 12th, 2005 we took our automatic '05 GT to the NMRA race at Bradenton Florida to start to see if all of the tuning and blot-ons we’ve preformed had paid off - and paid off they did.
With no suspension work, and no exhaust parts replaced , the car managed an unbelievable 12.92 @ 106.5mph! Just a couple of days before we actually got to Florida we also installed an under drive crank pulley and a set of Steeda IRMC or “Charge motion” delete plates. We didn’t get a chance to Dyno the car with the Steeda plates or the crank pulley, but verified that the delete plates on a couple of customers cars were worth an honest 6-8 RWHP. So we figure our 05 automatic is some where around 290-RWHP now.

Also a major contributing factor to such a great ET on this car is a prototype Torque converter from Precision industries, (the same guys who make the stallion converters we use exclusively in 04 and older automatic mustangs). This converter is about 500rpm looser than stock and is very streetable in every way. This converter from PI will be part of an upcoming package for the automatic GTs that we will be offering. This was achieved with the stock final drive ratio in the rear end. Our car has a 3.55 in the axle, not the stock 3.31. But the 3.55s are a total wash because all they do is make up for the 1.5” taller rear tire we run on a 20” rim. Plus our 12 second ET’s came with the regular rear tires on the 20 rims. Not a drag radial! As I suspected and predicted, the automatics will only need a very subtle gear change for some good quarter mile performance.
We feel that this is an awesome start in performance and a dramatic gain in ET for the automatic car in what will amount to be about a $2200.00 to $2500.00 package installed at our shop.
