Project: Mach-1
Alternative Auto Begins Ambitious Project for Summer of 04
Watch the progress here.
Weve purchased a brand new 2004 Mustang Mach-1. This car is going to be used as a project car to showcase many things, but primarily used to show our ability to make the modular motors stock, cast pistons survive serious supercharged applications all it really takes is proper and responsible tuning.

Wheels and Tires
We finally had the stock Mach-1 wheels widened from 8 to 10.5. This combined with 30mm spacers to pull the wheels back out, has given the MACH a very filled out and tough look from all angles. The rear tire is the new 315/35/17 BF G-Force Drag Radial.

The car has also been lowered about 3/4 by just cutting about 3/4 of a coil from the front and rear springs. The rear lower control arms have been replaced with HP Mega-Bite JRs and the stock drive shaft has been replaced with a Motorsport aluminum.
Also added is a complete 2.5" exhaust system with two Hi-flow cats and Flowmaster 40 series mufflers. For now, the intention is to leave the stock exhaust manifolds alone even when the KenneBell blower goes on - we have found that Roots equipped 4.6L’s don’t benefit as greatly from long tubes once the vehicle already has a full 2.5" exhaust from the manifolds back. Also, the transmission is substantially easier to service or R&R with out long tube headers.
Were very confident that with around 16-18 psi of boost we will have no problems going mid-to-hi 10s in the quarter with the stock manifolds or possibly some sort of replacement shorty header.
The stock 3.55 gears and the tight, stock torque converter will be left alone, we feel that they are a very good match for the low and mid range torque of the KB screw type blower.
Thanks and keep checking here for the blower updates - hopefully by October.
