Project: Mach-1
Alternative Auto's Kenne Bell Equipped Mach-1
Performance Update
We received our Kenne Bell kit for the Mach-1 in mid October and tried to get it installed in time for some fall weather tuning and testing at the track. The kit took longer then expected to fully install because our kit from KB was set up for 8-rib not the normal 6-rib. This made it a little more time consuming because of all of the drive pulleys needed to be changed to accommodate the full 8-rib package. And the kit for the Mach-1 from KB isnt officially out yet. So fitting the hood scoop back on also took some extra time because we had to figure it out on our own.
Being as impatient as I tend to get (drag racers) I decided to go for 18 19 psi of boost right away and commit to running 100 octane unleaded fuel full time.
As you can see in the pictures the kit is almost undetectable underneath the scoop and its a beautifully designed kit as all KBs are. This particular KB for our Mach-1 was ordered with the bigger 2.2L blower as opposed to the normal/smaller 1.7L. And it has the water to air intercooling option as well. The complete install went very well over-all and looks like it was designed by the factory.
With the intention of running lots of boost we used the latest 60lbs/hour, high impedance injectors and the latest SCT 90MM Mass-Air-Meter. This combo of 60s and the SCT meter coupled with a proper tune as given us some incredible driveability and idle quality. The Mach-1 also got Dual 03 Cobra fuel pumps and a KB boost-a-pump. We found that this fuel system with the stock rails and lines is capable of supporting more then 600 RWHP. Its been tested and proven on several 03 Cobras weve built with larger blowers replacing the stock Eaton M-112.

Respecting a certain magazines privileges, we cant disclose all of the performance details yet. But so far on the dyno in 3rd gear (1 to 1 ratio) with two cats and mufflers, full 2.5 exhaust, stock exhaust manifolds, and the stock 3.55s in the axle, weve already made 560 RWHP and 536 ft. lbs of torque. The torque comes on incredibly hard, early and stays broad. With the stock, tight torque converter and not-so-perfect traction its already run high tens in the 1/4 at well over 130 MPH with what appears to be a stock looking Mach-1 with a little bit louder exhaust.
Keep on eye out for more soon.
