2005 Mustang V6 Tune from Alternative Auto Performance Adds Impressive Gains.

V6 Mustangs have never been the focus of the performance aftermarket.  But the new 4.0L V-6 in the 05 Mustang is an excellent foundation for performance gains and we have unlocked impressive amounts of power.

We have spent some time tweaking a couple of the new V-6 Automatic equipped ‘05 Mustangs with impressive results at the rear wheels on the chassis dyno, and extremely improved off-idle throttle response as well as mid-range power.

We’ve designed our 4.0L V-6 performance tune to work with a minimum of 89 octane to get the most out of this little motor. We’ve also made substantial differences in how the transmission feels during shifts at both part throttle and WOT, plus very big improvements in the “Fly-by-wire” throttle operations. A premium fuel tune is also available for even more power.

Our new V-6 Automatic trans tune will actually spin the tires from a dead dig, rather then just lay over when mashing the throttle right off idle! Top speed limiters have been raised as well.

As can be seen on the dyno graph, we’ve found substantial low-end torque with our tune and impressive HP gains across the entire band using 89 Octane fuel. Our new 4.0L V-6 Mustang tune increased as much as 40 ft lbs. of torque in the most usable rpm area of all - right off idle up to 3000 rpm and continued with impressive HP & TQ gains right to 5500 rpm. This tune combined with a minimum of 89 octane is an absolute must have for the new 2005 4.0L V-6.

If you do only one performance modification to your 05 Mustang V-6, this is truly the one to consider. Our tune addresses so many factory tuning short-comings, and compromises with both throttle response and auto trans shifting, that no other part or bolt-on can even come close to what you get for the cost and gains of our Xcal’s with our V-6 performance tune.

Although it’s not shown here on a dyno graph we also tested a better cat-back exhaust system for the V-6 Mustang and found an unbelievable 10 horsepower at the rear wheels from about 4000 rpm up. The exhaust system with our tune ended up producing 190 RWHP. I must say that at 190 RWHP coupled to the new 5-speed automatic, this new V-6 Mustang feels very impressive all around.

Alternative Auto is excited about the 05 V-6 Mustang and fully intends to pursue not only performance tunes, but other bolt-ons as they become available, like higher stall torque converters, pulleys and air boxes.  Hopefully we’ll be trying and testing some superchargers on the 4.0L V-6 by late 2005.
